Performance of diabetes screening tests: an evaluation study of Iranian diabetes screening program

Abstract Background Type 2 diabetes is a common non-communicable disease that responsible for about 9% of all deaths and 25% reduction in life expectancy. However, nearly half the diabetic patients are not aware their disease. In this regard, to identify un-known patients, screening great importance. This study was conducted evaluate performance two commonly used tests currently recommended by Iranian program (DSP). Methods The validity were measured among 1057 participants who older than 30 years age. studied included capillary fasting blood glucose (CBG) glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c). golden standard measuring venous plasma (VPG). Results According results, sensitivity CBG HbA1c 69.01% 84.5%, specificity 95.7% 79.3%, respectively. Positive negative predictive values 53.84% 97.72% 22.72% 98.61% HbA1c, cut points 116.5 mg/dl 7.15%, Using these as new points, changed 80.30% 89.10%, 77.50% 94.20%, Conclusions Compared several other countries, DSP relatively better. Receiver Operating Characteristic Curve suggested significantly better DSP.
